A
cool breeze blows. The sweet smell of barbecue mingles with whatever Poppy is cooking on his bright blue truck. The sound of people mingling, ordering food, buying fresh produce from the farmer’s market, visiting vendors fill Parker Press Park. A sea of lawn chairs, some high, some low, some soft and fancy, some elaborate, some basic, begins to cover the green of the lawn with multi-faceted colors along with beautiful patterned blankets and picnic baskets.
P
eople drift through the various gates carrying more chairs. Some in pairs, some by themselves, some in groups. Children run and giggle, some dance to the pre-show music. Dogs sniff each other and friendly humans.
L
ines form. Concert tee shirts spur conversations between newcomers and regulars alike. Beer made just across the street is poured into red cups. Sweat covers Sauce’s forehead as he fills plates with steaming meats and cool coleslaw. Rice balls with exotic stuffings, meatball sandwiches, hot dogs and sweet treats are paired with hungry concert goers.

he sun drops lower in the sky, and Mayor McCormac welcomes the crowd to the “best town around.” “The Music Man of Woodbridge” introduces a band, or a solo, or a duo, that you may have never heard of. Music fills the air and another night of amazing music washes over Parker Press Park. Dancers strut around the perimeter while others listen intently. This is Woodbridge Wednesdays. An exploration of music familiar and not. A community of music lovers gathering under the tall trees and green grass every summer Wednesday. An opportunity to buy Jersey Fresh, patronize local vendors and enjoy high caliber music, all with no admission or parking fees.

oodbridge Wednesdays take place every summer from late June through early September in beautiful Parker Press Park. Admission is free, but concertgoers are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for the Woodbridge food bank. Artists run the gamut from rock to world music, with plenty of Americana, blues, jazz, folk and indie. Vendors provide produce, craft beer, hot food, baked goods, pickles, crafts and more!
