WOODBRIDGE ARTS Woodbridge, NJ
History
Music on Main Street was born in 2009 when township resident and avid concert goer, Bill Brandenburg responded to an article concerning the Woodbridge Township’s interest in saving an derelict movie theatre in the Fords section of the township and turning it into a performing arts center. Bill suggested to the Mayor that while this was being investigated, a music series could be established to explore the feasibility of the performing arts in Woodbridge. Mayor McCormac identified funds for the pilot project and assigned one this aides, Larry McCullough, to help establish the series. Another township resident, Al Schaefer, became aware of the project through a subsequent article and volunteered to join the project bringing decades of production and event management experience to the table. The Woodbridge United Methodist Church, located a block from city hall became the first venue as the series kicked off with Aztec Two Step’s Simon & Garfunkel Tribute narrated by Pete Fornatale. After three years at the church, Music on Main Street left the church and began presenting at the Barron Arts Center and then at the Theatre at Woodbridge Middle School. After a hiatus due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the series will now take place at the Avenel Performing Arts Center.
