Pelzman Park

The new “Avenel Arts Village” is expected to be completed before the end of 2017.  To get the “Avenel Arts Scene” up and running, Mayor John McCormac, with the sponsorship of Investors Bank, has created the “Second Friday Jazz Series” in Pelzman Park on Tappan Street, not far from the eventual Village site.

June 10: The Dalton Gang- The ten-piece Dalton Gang packs a steady brass punch pumped by the beats of funk, Latin, blues and New Orleans styles topped by shards of syncopated bop. ~Jazz Times


July 8: Jazzmeia Horn- Originally from Texas and now living in Harlem, Jazzmeia won the 2013 Sarah Vaughn International Vocal Jazz Competition as well as the prestigious 2015 Thelonious Monk International Vocal Jazz Competition


Aug 12: Eli Yamin Jazz Quartet- Originally from Highland Park, NJ and now living in NYC, this jazz and blues pianist, composer, singer and producer has toured the world as a cultural ambassador for the U.S. State Department and has performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center in NYC and President Obama’s White House.


Sept 9: Tomoko Ohno- Born in Tokyo where she graduated Rikkyo University, she moved to New Jersey and entered the Jazz Studies Program at William Paterson University and studied with Harold Maybern and Rufus Reid among others. Tomoko has performed at Lincoln Center, Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall, The Blue Note, Sweet Basil and The Lenox Lounge in Harlem, in addition to appearing on live radio broadcasts by WBGO and WNYC.
